CareerWise is always on the lookout for the latest reports related to career development. Here are several reports that we found interesting this week.

Labour Force Survey, April 2026 (Statistics Canada)

Employment was little changed in April, while the unemployment rate rose to 6.9% as more people searched for work. Statistics Canada also found youth unemployment increased to 14.3% and average hourly wages were up 4.5% year over year.

Job Outlook 2026: Spring Update (NACE)

NACE reports that employer hiring for the Class of 2026 is projected to increase by 5.6%, though growth is uneven across industries and employer types. The update also points to rising demand for AI skills, growing use of skills-based hiring and continued emphasis on experiential learning in entry-level recruitment.

The New Path to Enrollment: Three Shifts Shaping College Choice (EAB)

Based on survey responses from more than 9,500 students, this insight paper examines what is driving college enrolment decisions. EAB highlights the influence of anticipated AI-related workforce changes, evolving search behaviours and intensifying late-cycle competition on how students choose where to enrol.
