Challenges and Innovations 2020-21 Annual Report on Ontario Schools (People for Education)

In the past year, People for Education heard from 1,173 secondary and elementary school principals from across Ontario through their Annual Ontario School Survey. The principals’ responses show that along with the anxiety, shortages and inequities amplified by the pandemic, there were also positive adaptations and innovations.

Pathways to success: Increasing online careers advice engagement for disadvantaged young people (Social Mobility Coalition)

Career guidance can raise aspirations and help young people make informed choices about their future. This project from the UK-based Social Mobility Coalition aimed to increase disadvantaged young people’s engagement with career advice – with the ultimate aim of improving their education and labour market outcomes. It offers recommendations for career advice providers.

Benchmarking the Creative Technology Ecosystem in British Columbia (ICTC)

British Columbia is a globally recognized hub for creative technology, providing over 10,000 jobs across animation, visual effects and video games. This ICTC report outlines that the continued success of this sector in B.C. relies on access to skilled talent at all levels, creating greater visibility for the sector, fortifying access to financing, and further collaboration between industry and post-secondary institutions.

Career conversations: Why it is important for students to talk about their futures in work with teachers, family and friends (OECD)

The OECD Career Readiness project explores quantitative evidence to identify how teenage career-related activities and attitudes are linked to better adult employment outcomes. One indicator of better employment outcomes is students reporting having career conversations with family members, peers and importantly, with subject teachers.
