Each week, CERIC is on the lookout for the latest reports related to career development. Here are four reports that we found interesting this week:
What’s at stake in the move from CERB to EI? (Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives)
This analysis finds that 41% of people receiving the CERB (1.4 million people) would be eligible for EI without any rule changes, which roughly reflects the proportion of the unemployed that EI generally covered before COVID-19. The biggest issue for CERB recipients who are already EI-eligible is that they’ll move from the CERB’s flat $500/week to EI’s 55% of previous earnings. For most of the people rolling to EI, they’ll actually receive much less in EI benefits than they got from the CERB.
Help Wanted 2: A Data-Driven Approach to Workforce Development (Toronto Region Board of Trade)
In this report, the Economic Blueprint Institute (EBI) — the Board’s research and data arm — uses Ontario’s Peel Region as a case study to:
- Introduce a place-based analysis of the existing talent and occupations in Peel
- Identify the top in-demand occupations that do not require a four-year degree
- Propose a skills development framework that is more responsive to the changing realities of both workers and employers
Labour Force Survey, July 2020 (Statistics Canada)
Employment rose by 419,000 (2.4%) in July compared with 953,000 (5.8%) in June. Combined with gains of 290,000 in May, this brought employment to within 1.3 million of its pre-COVID February level. For the first time, this release also includes information on the labour market conditions of population groups designated as visible minorities.
2020 Performance Management Benchmark Report (Reflektive)
With responses from 445 HR professionals and business leaders as well as 622 employees, this report provides data on how HR teams are approaching their performance programs — and employee sentiment on these programs.
