According to a 2024 Statistics Canada report, as of 2021, women held 30.8% of senior management positions and 42.7% of middle management roles. In honour of International Women’s Day, here are resources that career professionals can use to help women advance their career goals or overcome barriers to employment.
Catalyst [Organization]
Catalyst’s mission is to accelerate progress for women through workplace inclusion. They offer gender equity solutions – including through webinars and reports – that help organizations solve business challenges by attracting talent, fostering innovation and driving performance through inclusive cultures and diverse perspectives.
Canadian Management Centre [Resources]
Offers a library of resources including news and articles, as well as paid courses on leadership development for women. Courses include Women’s Leadership Certificate Program, Confidence-Building Skills for Women and Executive Presence for Women.
Canadian Women’s Foundation [Organization]
Nationwide non-profit organization with a focus on girls and women. The foundation funds programs such as Partnering for Feminist Entrepreneurship, which is an award-winning national project that supports women and gender-diverse entrepreneurs.
Federation of Medical Women of Canada [Organization]
This national organization is committed to the professional, social and personal advancement of women physicians and to the promotion of the well-being of women both in the medical profession and in society at large. Its resources include a Mentorship Guide.
Helping Women Now [Program]
This virtual service, powered by Dress for Success Canada Foundation, supports women and non-binary individuals facing employment barriers. It promotes gender equality and economic independence through skill development, community building and access to resources.
Homeward Bound Toronto (Woodgreen) [Program]
A four-year education and employment program that helps homeless or inadequately housed single mothers achieve financial stability and independence. Delivery is in person in Toronto and virtual. The program is free.
International Centre for Women’s Leadership at Coady Institute [Organization]
The centre empowers women globally through education and leadership programs. It addresses gender inequality and collaborates with women-led organizations to promote justice-oriented leadership. Programs include Indigenous Women in Community Leadership, and Feminist Advocacy for Agency, Equity, and Justice, among others.
Leading Talent – Women in Leadership Career Portal [Resources]
This Canadian career platform aims to help women advance into leadership and strategic roles. It connects skilled women with inclusive employers committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. The platform offers resources such as a virtual career assistant, job search tools, leadership development programs, networking opportunities and career advice.
Women in Leadership Foundation (WIL) [Organization]
WIL is a Canadian non-profit organization advancing women into leadership and fostering inclusion. It offers programs such as mentorship, forums and events to support women professionals. WIL also celebrates women’s achievements, including those of Indigenous women, while building community.
YWCA Canada [Organization]
YWCA Canada works to advance gender equity and empowering women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse individuals. It focuses on addressing issues like gender-based violence, affordable housing, and workplace equity through advocacy and community initiatives.
