Reading Time: 3 minutes

Following another vibrant Cannexus conference, our hearts and minds are full! CERIC was thrilled to welcome over 1,700 virtual and in-person attendees to Cannexus25 last week. The CERIC team took to social media to see what attendees, presenters and exhibitors had to say about their Cannexus experience, and we are filled with gratitude by all the moments and memories you’ve shared.

While we couldn’t include everything, we’ve compiled a snapshot of your conference takeaways from last week. Check out #Cannexus25 and #Cannexus across social media platforms to see more attendee highlights.

Tech tip: This post is jam-packed with wonderful posts from Cannexus attendees – you might need to give it a minute or two to load.

On the main stage

This year, Cannexus hosted three amazing keynotes on the main stage in Ottawa, which were broadcast live to virtual attendees. Tina Varughese, Cross-Cultural Communication and Diversity Expert, gave an energizing talk on “The Human Side of Unconscious Bias”; Dr. Kevin Glavin, Licensed Professional Counsellor & Professor at Walden University, offered timely insights in his keynote on “Revolutionizing Career Practice Using Life Designing and AI”; and Indigenous Studies Professor and award-winning author Niigaan Sinclair issued an invigorating call to action in his remarks on “Reconciliation Is for Everyone.”

A screenshot of a LinkedIn post by Dr. Kevin Glavin, reading: Honored to be on stage at hashtag#Cannexus25 in Ottawa, sharing insights on how hashtag#LifeDesign and hashtag#AI are transforming career practice! Many thanks to CERIC for the opportunity to explore how we can navigate the evolving world of work with innovative, client-centered approaches. Excited to see how these ideas will shape the profession moving forward! 🚀

Cannexus attendees also celebrated the significant accomplishments of two of their peers, Gillian Johnston and Rob Shea, who were awarded CERIC’s Etta St. John Wileman Award for Outstanding Achievement in Career Development.

Screenshot of LinkedIn post from Memorial University reading: A Champion of Memorial 100, the late Dr. Rob Shea was an ardent supporter of student success and career development here at MUN. As an associate professor in the Faculty of Education, his research focused on experiential learning, adult education, and university and college leadership. He actively engaged with both staff and students and empowered those around him to flourish on- and off-campus.

Also on the main stage: Cannexus attendees got a sneak peek at the results from CERIC’s latest Survey of Career Service Professionals. Check out the full results for a snapshot of the current state of the career development field – plus a special section on AI!

Inspired and empowered

Cannexus attendees were buzzing after several days of learning and connecting, with many people sharing the moments that inspired them and making plans to pass along learnings to colleagues.

Screenshot of post from Jennifer L: Had an incredible time last week at hashtag#Cannexus25, Canada’s largest conference for Career Development Professionals! Huge thanks to my CNIB coworkers Bryanna Regimbald, Elizabeth Mohler, Caleb Larbi Okoh, and Adele A. for making the experience so memorable! Grateful to CERIC for hosting such a fantastic event. I’m still absorbing everything I learned and feeling inspired to enhance the way I support my clients. Mark Franklin, Jim Woodbridge, Heidi Heung, and Tam Nguyen introduced me to using AI prompts to help clients uncover their stories for better career decisions. Kevin Glavin’s insights on how people can “fall out of their story” resonated deeply. While Bill Borgen & Roberta Borgen reinforced the power of listening and building a strong therapeutic alliance to help clients get unstuck. Mark Patterson emphasized the importance of official AI training to ensure ethical and responsible use. Anna Boltenko, PhD, PCC, CCS and Andrea Fruhling showed me how to bring creativity and fun into job searching. ...and so much more!

Screenshot of post from Jodi O'Gorman: This week at hashtag#cannexus, we had the privilege of hosting and participating in an Indigenous Kairos Blanket Exercise with about 45 people, including facilitators from Santele's Healing Circles and partners from across Canada. It was a powerful and deeply meaningful experience for everyone involved. I want to acknowledge the knowledge that was shared and the thoughtful, impactful way it was delivered. Thank you to everyone who took part in this important learning journey. Your engagement, reflections, and openness made this experience truly special. Thank you to the facilitators of the session - Elder Alanis, Julie and Jim - we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have partnered to bring this learning exercise to hashtag#cannexus

Screenshot of post from Natalia Lancheros: Today, concluding the hashtag#Cannexus25 event with great learnings. As a firm believer that investing in education makes people more powerful, capable, and better prepared for opportunities, I keep for myself: understanding that there are many paths and new challenges in the world of work. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence in our daily and work lives is inevitable, and knowing how to navigate this new wave is part of our responsibility to reap its benefits while maintaining our roots and humanity in their place. The inclusion of minorities, immigrants, indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, among others, is an integral part of the development of the Canadian workforce. Opening paths to show that multiculturalism generates innovation, creativity, and opportunities. Excellent seminar!

Screenshot of post from Srishti Marken: A huge thank you to Achēv for the incredible opportunity to attend hashtag#cannexus25. As a frontline worker, this experience has provided me with valuable insights into various aspects of career development that directly impact the clients I work with every day. Engaging with industry experts, exploring innovative approaches, and connecting with peers has been truly enriching. Grateful for the chance to learn, grow, and bring these insights back to better support those we serve. Thank you again for the opportunity Hamid A. Khan Gwendolyn F.
