CareerWise is always on the lookout for the latest reports related to career development. Here are several reports that we found interesting this week.

Labour Force Survey, August 2024 (Statistics Canada)

The unemployment rate rose 0.2 percentage points to 6.6% in August, after holding steady in July. The unemployment rate in August was the highest since May 2017, outside of 2020 and 2021.

Human capital utilisation, quiet quitting and employee retention (CEDEFOP)

Employee turnover is the main cause of the under-provision of training in organizations. However, the returns on organizational investments in human capital are also jeopardized by the under-utilization of skills. Organizations vary in their reliance on human capital for their success; this heterogeneity affects turnover, too, while those relying on human capital for their success encourage workers to draw on their skills (and discourage quiet quitting).

Key tenets of programs that successfully engage young people (Analysis & Policy Observatory)

This report collates the results of interviews conducted with CEOs, frontline workers and youth to provide an overview of the key elements of successful programs across eight organizations providing direct services to young people in New South Wales. The most common approaches used were: rights-based, client-centred, strengths-based, trauma-informed and culturally safe.
