A new year can offer a great opportunity to freshen up your skills and make progress toward learning goals. The following courses, offered between December and March, cover topics including career education, resume writing, ethics, emotional intelligence and much more!

On-demand courses are also available from BCCDA, NSCDA, ACSESS and VOCO. This roundup is not intended to capture courses requiring prior registration in a certificate program.

Personality Dimensions Levels I and II 

Personality Dimensions Level I allows participants to become familiar with the Personality Dimensions model, resources and delivery expectations; develop strategies and applications applicable to a variety of settings; and enhance their facilitation skills.  

Personality Dimensions I and II will be offered online and in Toronto on multiple dates between Dec. 6 and March 15. 

Additional Qualification Courses in Guidance and Career Education Parts I, II and Specialist (Part III) (OSCA) 

Jan. 8 – March 8  

This three-part training will equip participants the skills needed to be an effective guidance teacher-counsellor. The model for these courses includes a virtual classroom, where participants meet in real time to practise counselling skills, listen to guest speakers and watch videos.

CPC is offering the following courses this winter: 

Life Strategies 

Life Strategies is offering several online courses this winter: 

University of Calgary – Certificate in Career Development and Academic Advising 

The University of Calgary is offering multiple courses this winter that can contribute to this certificate and others, including: 

University of Calgary Continuing Education – Career Development Professional Essentials 

This new micro-credential offered by UCalgary Continuing Education provides essential knowledge of the career development field of practice. The program consists of two online courses: 

CDPCBO (Career Development Practitioners Certification Board of Ontario) 

Career Development Ethics (Jan. 18) 

This course provides an overview of the new National Code of Ethics for Career Development Professionals/Practitioners, including ethical decision-making models. 

Career Development Theory (Jan. 24-25) 

This course provides an introduction to and overview of some of the major schools of thought in career development and transition theories. 

CEWIL WIL Practitioner Training  

Starting Jan. 29 

This training comprises three asynchronous modules, which can contribute to the CEWIL WIL Practitioner designation. It aims to support participants to:  

  • Think through how research literature and evidence-based wise practices can inform their work; 
  • Reflect on their process for assessing student learning, supporting meaning reflection and engaging with employers and host organizations; and 
  • Implement strategies to their your WIL programming is high-quality, ethical, inclusive and accessible. 
MBTI® Certification Training Program for Canadians (Psychometrics) 

Jan. 29 – Feb. 1 & March 18-21 

The virtual MBTI Certification training program prepares participants to successfully administer and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® to develop individuals, teams and leaders. During this experiential workshop, learners will practise using their own results and learn team activities, coaching methods and facilitation strategies. Participants leave the program with ready-to-use presentation materials, personal insights and new relationships.  

Peak Careers 

Career professional Jim Peacock’s Peak Careers provides professional development for career service providers.

  • Retirement Coaching  
  • Social Media Strategies for Career Practitioners 
  • EQ at Work: Emotional Intelligence for Career Practitioners 
  • Career Readiness for Justice-Involved Citizens 
Douglas College – Mental Health Strategies for CDPs 

Feb. 23 & March 1 

Mental Health Strategies will provide CDPs with concrete strategies to support clients with mental health challenges. It will also provide strategic tools for CDPs to use for their own mental health while working with clients. 

OneLifeTools – Holistic Narrative Career Professional (HNCP) Certification  

March 6-8 

This training features effective demos, engaging practice and lively conversation, with the aim of helping learners understand the theoretical basis and gain practical how-to skills as they learn a narrative assessment system, used optionally with Online Storyteller web application. 

Simon Fraser University – Vocational Rehabilitation and Disability Management Certificate 

Learners have the opportunity to register for individual courses at any time, with the option to apply to the program later. The following courses will be offered this winter:
