Here are resources that can help career professionals understand challenges associated with ADHD and ways to better support clients.  

 

ADHD & me: Lessons in the transition from school to work (CareerWise) [Article]  

Courtney-Lynn Riviere, Pandemic Recovery Support Project Coordinator at Wilfrid Laurier University, shares her first work experience after post-secondary and learning about workplace accommodations that supported her success. She provides advice on finding solutions when entering the workforce.  

ADHD in the Workplace (Centre for ADHD Awareness, Canada) [Webinar] 

Heidi Bernhardt is a psychiatric nurse by training, mother of three grown sons with ADHD and the founder of the Centre for ADHD Awareness Canada (CADDAC). In this webinar, she reviews potential strengths and impairments ADHD symptoms could cause in the workplace, how to assess these and if and how employees might discuss this with their employers. 

Build Your Thrive Space (Centre for ADHD Awareness, Canada) [Webinar] 

Everyone has unique workplace preferences and needs, including those with an ADHD brain. Occupational therapists Krysta Longridge and Katie Eichar offer advice to help people with ADHD create effective workspaces. They also discuss how the ADHD brain impacts work/school and strategies to improve productivity. 

Hiring and Supporting Neurodivergent Workers: Strategies for Success (Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion) [Webinar] 

While this webinar doesn’t focus on ADHD and the workplace, its panel discusses challenges and strategies that affect neurodiverse professionals. Haley Moss, Attorney & Neurodiversity Expert, and Rebecca Beam, Founder & CEO, Zavikon, share their insights on how they dealt with workplace assumptions and challenges as people with autism. Other topics include de-stigmatizing neurodivergence in the workplace and examples of successful neurodiversity employment initiatives.  

Impact of ADHD at Work (Attention Deficit Disorder Association) [Article] 

This article explores the emotional, collaborative and economic challenges that some professionals with ADHD face. It also explores the benefits of organizational coaching and training programs to accommodate employees.
