CareerWise is always on the lookout for the latest reports related to career development. Here are four reports that we found interesting this week:

Labour Force Survey, January 2021 (Statistics Canada)

Employment fell by 213,000 (-1.2%) in January. Losses were entirely in part-time work and were concentrated in the Quebec and Ontario retail trade sectors.

What happened to jobs at high risk of automation? (OECD)

While a significant share of jobs in all countries were estimated to be at risk of automation, this has not resulted in mass unemployment. In fact, total employment has increased in nearly all countries over the period 2012-2019, despite ongoing automation.

2021 Canadian Nonprofit Sector Salary and Benefits Study (CharityVillage)

This survey collected compensation and profile data for six staff levels at charities and non-profits in Canada. Looking at the sector in general, it found that compensation is growing slowly.

Alumni networks reimagined: Innovations expanding alumni connections to improve postsecondary pathways (Christensen Institute)

In an outcomes-based postsecondary market focused on employment and ROI, students’ access to networks will likely matter more. Alumni bases hold a critical stock of social capital, currently lying dormant across much of the system.
