Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
Reading Time: 4 minutes

How could we begin to summarize three jam-packed days of learning, four incredible keynotes – and the power of bringing together nearly 2,000 virtual and in-person attendees for Cannexus24? Well, we think you said it best! We took to social media to see what attendees, presenters and exhibitors had to say about their Cannexus experience, and we were blown away by the moments and memories you shared.

While we couldn’t include everything, we’ve compiled a snapshot of your conference takeaways from last week. You can also check out #Cannexus and #Cannexus24 on LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter for more!

Tech tip: This post is jam-packed with wonderful posts from Cannexus attendees – you might need to give it a minute or two to load.

Feeling inspired

Cannexus attendees were buzzing after several days of learning and connecting, with many people sharing the moments that inspired them and making plans to pass along learnings to colleagues.

LinkedIn post: Yesterday was a wrap for hashtag#Cannexus24. Attending this event for the first time and representing Columbia College was a truly enriching experience. I'm returning to Vancouver with a refreshed perspective, thanks to the wisdom and connections made over the past three days. Witnessing how career practitioners and the industry combine data, expertise, and heart to support individuals was truly inspiring.

LinkedIn post: Truly thankful for another hashtag#cannexus24 conference by CERIC filled with inspiration and passionate individuals. Over 1900 career professionals both in person and virtually. Shoutout to Rie Takanuma Murakami who even flew from Japan to join us. From advocating for justice, equity, diversity & inclusion in our daily career practice Lisa Bauman & Claudia Mellad to examining our collective impact on the sector with hashtag#CCCBET and the panels ... Each of us plays a role in this system, with our own serendipitous journey of how we landed in this sector. Viewing it holistically, from individual behavior change to broader systems transformation mapped by Challenge Factory team really sparks a way to weave our stories and impacts together.

LinkedIn post: Had a great time attending my first CANNEXUS conference earlier this week alongside my dear colleague Jennifer Browne! We've absorbed so much these past few days and I look forward to passing along what we've learned to our team and students back at the Career Development Office. I listened to so many great presentations and met so many wonderful colleagues—some new, some known previously, and some for the first time in person! I'm grateful to them for making hashtag#CANNEXUS24 such a meaningful experience.

On the main stage

This year, Cannexus hosted four amazing keynotes on the main stage in Ottawa, which were broadcast live to virtual attendees. Future of work expert Hamza Khan’s “Brave New Work” keynote highlighted what career professionals need to thrive in a rapidly changing world of work. Paralympic champion and Senator Chantal Petitclerc  offered lessons about resilience and passion through her inspiring life story. Dr. Nancy Arthur, professor and Dean Research for UniSA Business, University of South Australia, took a critical look at trends and narratives that have been shaping the field of career development. University of Alberta professor and researcher Dr. Sean Lessard shared inspiring stories from his work supporting Indigenous youth empowerment and developing innovative educational programming.

Screenshot of LinkedIn post reading: I had the privilege of attending an inspirational keynote session by Dr. Sean Lessard. It was a much-needed reminder of the power that lies in storytelling to advocate for change.

Cannexus attendees also celebrated the significant accomplishments of one of their peers, Trina Maher, President and Chief Creative Spirit of Bridging Concepts, who was presented with the Etta St. John Wileman Award for Outstanding Achievement. Congratulations, Trina!

LinkedIn post: Congratulations to Trina Maher on this prestigious accolade at hashtag#CANNEXUS from CERIC! Trina, I am so happy to see you being recognized for all that you do! 🎉🎉🎉

From AI to mental health to career education, we loved seeing your learning highlights from the 150+ sessions at Cannexus24. Don’t forget: Whether you attended virtually or in-person, you will have access to all virtual and main-stage session recordings for three months! If you attended in-person, watch out for an email in the next week with instructions for accessing the virtual platform.

LinkedIn post: Grateful for the opportunity to share my experiences as a neurodivergent professional at hashtag#Cannexus24! Thanks to CERIC for offering the option to present a pre-recorded session. It allowed me to engage with attendees through written Q&A without the many "forks" that come with a live on-camera talk. Here's to accessible conferences!

LinkedIn: Wow! What a great week! Jessica Thornton and I had the opportunity to present our latest research on the futures of career development in 2040 at hashtag#Cannexus.

Thank you to all of the CDPs, career development users and non-users, who gave their time to be interviewed and / or participate in a workshop that informed this research.

Thank you to Ayana Webb for making the bilingual workshop possible and to Jess Thomson for bringing the findings to life through all of the amazing visuals.

Finally thank you to CERIC who made this important work possible!
