The following webinars and virtual workshops, taking place in February and hosted by a variety of organizations, cover topics such as 2024 HR trends, virtual work-integrated learning, generative AI for career exploration and more.

Celebrating Black History Month through story (CCDI) 

Feb. 1 

This webinar, which celebrates Black History Month (Canada) and African Heritage Month (Nova Scotia), will share stories from multiple lenses, highlighting different voices and experiences from within and across Canadian Black communities. 

11 HR Trends for 2024: Elevating Work (CPHR Manitoba) 

Feb. 6 

Work is at a crossroads, and HR can provide the breakthrough needed to get it back on track. There are three fundamental shifts driving this transformation:

1. HR will realign its priorities, reflecting the changing needs of the modern workforce.

In this about Missing and Murdered, Indigenous Women, Children and Two-Spirit peoples, attendees will learn the context of historical trauma, colonization, gender-based violence and current issues affecting Indigenous Women, Children and 2 Spirit peoples. Participate in group discussions about how this impacts your organization. 

Creating a Respectful Workplace (WRDC and techNL)

This workshop empowers participants with the necessary tools to establish and maintain a respectful workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging. It addresses issues such as harassment, discrimination and bullying.  

Trauma and Healing: An Overview (RespectAbility) 

Feb. 7 

This workshop will provide a view of trauma from the perspective of the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. It will explore the sources of trauma and the common effects of that trauma on both a biological and psychological level.  

Supporting Virtual WIL Experiences (EWO) 

Feb. 8 

Over the past four years, there has been an increase in the number of virtual WIL opportunities for students and employers. This webinar will explore the results of a HEQCO report on “Working (and Learning) Online: Improving Remote Work-Integrated Learning Experiences for Students and Employers.”

Employers may be fearful that accommodating someone with a disability will be costly, that it will cause hardship to them and their other staff, and that the employee will become a burden. This webinar will highlight how the job developer, assistive tech specialist and the employer can work together to simplify the road to accommodation. 

Sexual Harassment in Experiential Learning: A Price Students Shouldn’t Have to Pay (CACEE) 

Feb. 21 

One in two students have been subjected to sexual harassment during an experiential learning opportunity, and students, staff and faculty have shared that they feel abandoned, underprepared and undersupported. This session will explore findings from a research-to-action project looking at sexual harassment faced by students in experiential learning.

One of the engagement pillars for the REAL Xchange is the Mentorship Pillar – an initiative that provides an opportunity to help break down barriers through knowledge exchange.
