The Big Shift: Changes in Canadian Manufacturing Employment, 2003 – 2018 (Ryerson University Diversity Institute)
In Canada, employment in manufacturing fell by over 500,000 positions between 2003 and 2009. This research examines the questions: who was affected by this job loss, what happened to them, and what was the effect on the communities in which they had been employed?
Employment rose by 90,000 (+0.5%) in August, the third consecutive monthly increase. Increases were mainly in services-producing industries, led by accommodation and food services, and were spread across multiple demographic groups.
