Spring/summer 2025 courses and workshops for career professionals

Whether you’re looking to deepen your theoretical knowledge, gain new certifications or strengthen practical skills, there are plenty of professional development opportunities for career professionals this spring and summer. This list features courses and programs on topics such as ethics, labour market theory, trauma-informed practice, Indigenous employment and more. Options range from micro-credentials to full certifications and are offered by leading institutions across Canada and beyond.

Additional Qualifications (AQ) Courses: Guidance and Career Education (OSCA)

July 3-31 

OSCA-ACOSO will continue offering Part 1, Part 2, and the Specialist in Guidance and Career Education Additional Qualifications courses this summer. Part 1 focuses on Creating Pathways to Success, Community Connections, and Ethical Guidelines, while Part 2 provides advanced skills and leadership capabilities for educators in Guidance and Career Education. 

Brainstorm – Employer Engagement Academy

April 25 – May 16 

This is a micro-credential designed for post-secondary employer relations professionals to improve their engagement with employers. The academy offers live interactive workshops, panel discussions, collaborative group work, 12 hours of active learning, a dedicated web portal, online educational materials and highly experienced instructors. The program aims to help professionals identify employers’ top challenges. 

Canadian Association for Supported Employment (CASE) 

The following courses and certificate programs are available this spring/summer: 

  • An Intersectional Approach to Supporting Career Development (May 12 – June 22, delivered in partnership with CERIC) – This certificate program provides a comprehensive understanding of intersectionality’s impact on job seekers of BIPOC-D, offering critical insights into their employment experiences. 
  • Job Development (April 14 – June 8) – The program enhances critical communication and marketing skills, addressing ethical and legal implications of job development and providing a comprehensive perspective on the role. 
  • Support, Strategies, and Solutions (April 14 – June 8) This certificate program enhances skills in supported employment through eight modules, promoting critical thinking through live webinars, case studies and open discussion forums. 
Career Development Theory (CDPCBO) 

June 10-11 

This course provides an introduction to and overview of some of the major schools of thought in career development and transition theories. It is not a comprehensive course in the theories used in career development practice and transition but will provide a foundation/framework for practitioners to use when interacting with clients. 

Career Practitioner Supervision (NCDA) 

June 16-17 

NCDA offers a 45-hour training in career practitioner supervision. The Career Practitioner Supervisor (CPS) is essential to guiding new career practitioners as they transition into the role, helping more experienced professionals develop their practical skills so that they can adapt and grow with new challenges and trends within the world of work.  

Douglas College 

Individuals can enrol in individual courses or as part of the Career Development Practice Certificate program. The following courses are being offered this spring/summer: 

  • Self Care for CDPs and Clients (May 3 & 10) – This workshop teaches career development professionals about self-care and self-compassion in the workplace, emphasizing trauma-informed strategies, social determinants of mental health and relational systems. 
  • Indigenous Topics in Employment (May 4-31) – This elective course explores Indigenous employment in Canada, focusing on historical and contemporary factors influencing job choices for Indigenous jobseekers without prerequisites. 
  • Working with Anxiety: Tools for CDPs (May 23 & 30) – This experiential course provides a five-step process for CDPs to identify clients’ mental health challenges, enhance coping strategies and consider systemic issues, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, ACT and DBT. 
Life Strategies 

A couple of (online) courses are on offer this spring/summer: 

  • Group Facilitation Strategies for Career Programs (May 14) – This course teaches effective group facilitation strategies for career programs, covering stages of group development, small and large group sizes, and managing challenging situations using digital technology. 
  • Developing Career Programs, Services, or Courses (May 28) – Participants will learn to create successful career programs, services, or courses by identifying client groups, formulating course purposes and creating a comprehensive outline. 
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) Certification Canada (Psychometrics) 

May 26-29, Aug 18-21 

This interactive, four-day program prepares you to confidently begin using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® immediately with individuals and groups. During this experiential workshop, you will practice using your own results and learn team activities, coaching methods and facilitation strategies. Participants leave the program with ready-to-use presentation materials, personal insights and new relationships. 

OneLifeTools 

Online Storyteller Training (June 3) 

The Online Storyteller Training offers a scalable solution for self-discovery and career management, while maintaining service budgets. Participants can experience a 60-minute, story-based assessment before learning how to use Online Storyteller and Conversation Guide for one-on-one and self-directed applications. The training covers the basics of narrative assessment and helps participants lead four specific conversations to support clients or students. 

Who You Are Matters! Facilitator Training (June 3) 

Become a Who You Are Matters! Facilitator and lead engaging experiences for groups ranging from three to 300. Experience peer-to-peer learning and confidently facilitate this tool, supported by a facilitator guide and tips. Participants gain clarity, confidence and strengthen their voice, delighting them as they gain clarity and confidence. 

Peak Careers 

 Career expert Jim Peacock’s Peak Careers offers training and development opportunities for professionals in the career services field: 

Personality Dimensions – Levels I & II 

Multiple dates between May 13 and August 29, offered online and in Toronto 

Personality Dimensions® is a model based on research in human motivation and behavior that helps understand and appreciate individual differences. It is presented in an interactive workshop, making learning memorable and easy to apply. The certification program offers two levels: Level I, which enables individuals to become familiar with the model, develop strategies for various settings, enhance facilitation skills and purchase training materials from Career/Lifeskills resources. Level II allows individuals to facilitate workshops, charge for services and provide statistical data on participants. 

Simon Fraser University – Vocational Rehabilitation and Disability Management 

This program equips vocational rehabilitation professionals with specialized skills for the growing field of disability management, preparing them for careers in rehabilitation, insurance, career/employment services or human resources. The following courses are being offered this spring/summer: 

Social Procurement Professional Certificate (Buy Social Canada) 

May 29-June 19 

This certificate program aims to equip both private and public sector participants with comprehensive knowledge on social procurement success, creating a social value culture, developing Social Procurement policy, and implementing social procurement practices into current RFx processes to increase social value from procurement spend.  

Therapy Online 

Cybercounselling Level I (May 30) 

This is a three-credit micro-credential course designed for experienced counselling practitioners to offer professional, ethical online counselling. The course covers video, live text-chat and email-style counselling methods, with certificates issued upon completion. Participants can take a single Micro-Credential or choose all three. The course employs a “practitioner-researcher” model and covers three essential areas: enhancing the therapeutic alliance online, ethical, practical and clinical issues, and technological knowledge and skills. 

Cybercounselling – Level II (Dates to be announced) 

This is a three-module course designed for counselling practitioners who have completed Cybercounselling Level I. Upon completion, participants receive certificates from Therapy Online. The course is interactive, personal, and uses online group and dyadic processes to practice text-based communication skills. Participants learn about secure email technology, therapeutic communication skills and role-play.  

University of Calgary Continuing Education – Career Development Professional Essentials 

This program offers a comprehensive understanding of career development, focusing on foundational theories, ethical principles, and their application in diverse client work. Successful learners will identify theories and models, apply them to practice, and discuss ethical issues and professional responsibilities in the career development field. This program is designed for those seeking to advance their career development career. The following courses are being offered this spring/summer:
