This fall, take the opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge as a career development professional. The following courses cover a range of topics including work-integrated learning, disability management, ethics and Indigenous employment.

On-demand courses are also available from BCCDA, NCDA, NSCDA, ACSESS and VOCO. This roundup is not intended to capture courses requiring prior registration in a certificate or master’s program.

CEWIL – Foundation of WIL Training

Starting Sept. 1

The course, Foundations of Work-Integrated Learning, is the first of three required asynchronous modules which can contribute to the CEWIL WIL Practitioner designation. The module covers topics such as:

  • The fundamentals of Work-Integrated Learning
  • The AAA* Work-Integrated Learning Quality Framework
  • Key ethical considerations of WIL
  • Principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in WIL
Personality Dimensions Levels I and II

Multiple dates between Sept. 6 and Nov. 29, offered online and in Toronto

Personality Dimensions Level I allow participants to become familiar with the Personality Dimensions model, resources and delivery expectations; develop strategies and applications applicable to a variety of settings; and enhance their facilitation skills.

MBTI® Certification Training Program for Canadians (Psychometrics)

Sept. 16-17, Sept. 23-24 & Nov. 18-21

The virtual MBTI Certification training program prepares participants to successfully administer and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® to develop individuals, teams and leaders. During this experiential workshop, learners will practise using their own results and learn team activities, coaching methods and facilitation strategies. Participants leave the program with ready-to-use presentation materials, personal insights and new relationships.

An Intersectional Approach to Supporting Career Development (CASE & CERIC)

Cohorts starting Sept. 16 & Nov. 4

This six-week certificate program offers an enhanced understanding of the impact of intersectionality for BIPOC-D jobseekers and offers critical insights into the employment experiences of BIPOC-D (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour communities who experience disability) jobseekers. This awareness will allow you to individualize your support and assist clients to advance in their chosen careers. At the end of the program, participants will be better equipped to deliver equitable and effective services and to form meaningful partnerships with BIPOC-D jobseekers and employers.

University of Calgary – Certificate in Career Development and Academic Advising

The University of Calgary is offering 17 courses this fall that can count toward its Certificate in Career Development and Academic Advising or be taken as a one-off course. Among the upcoming slate of courses:

University of Calgary Continuing Education – Career Development Professional Essentials

This micro-credential offered by UCalgary Continuing Education provides essential knowledge of the career development field of practice. The program consists of two online courses:

The Employer Engagement Academy micro-credential program consists of weekly three-hour sessions over four weeks. This program is designed to equip learners with the skills needed to enhance employer relations on campus. Learners will discover strategies to attract new opportunities for students, create actionable plans to strengthen employer connections, advance their careers in employer relations and build a professional network with peers in the field.

OneLifeTools – Holistic Narrative Career Professional (HNCP) Certification

Nov. 13-15

This training features effective demos, engaging practice and lively conversation, with the aim of helping learners understand the theoretical basis and gain practical how-to skills as they learn a narrative assessment system, used optionally with Online Storyteller web application.
