Many organizations have adapted their hiring processes to an online format. Phone and video interviews as well as virtual assessments are now standard practices in a post-pandemic job market. Here are a few resources to help career professionals and their clients excel in virtual interviews and evaluations.

Virtual Online Job Interviews 2024: Techniques + Strategies (Udemy) 

This three-hour, on-demand course is designed to help jobseekers learn the nuances of online interviews, offering guidance on setting up a virtual environment, handling technical issues and enhancing communication skills. The course covers various topics from optimizing audio, video and lighting, to developing impactful verbal and non-verbal communication techniques. 

Virtual job interviews for non-native English speakers (LinkedIn Learning)  

This course is designed to help non-native English speakers navigate the challenges of interviewing in English, especially in an online setting. The course provides advice on technical troubleshooting, language tips and examples for answering common interview questions. Library card holders may be able to access the course for free. 

 Interview preparation tools  
Introducing new ways to get ready for the virtual job interview (LinkedIn)  

LinkedIn advanced the launch of its interview preparation tools to help jobseekers in a post-pandemic landscape. The first tool allows hiring managers to request video introductions, which gives candidates the opportunity to stand out before formal interviews. The second tool enables jobseekers to practise answering questions and receive AI-powered feedback instantly. 

Interview Warmup (Google)   

Google’s Interview Warmup tool offers a way to practise answering common interview questions and receive insights on responses. Developed by industry experts, the questions are categorized by specific industries such project management, data analytics and cybersecurity, as well as a general category. Answers are transcribed in real time, allowing users to review their responses. This tool helps jobseekers build confidence in interviewing and identify areas for improvement.   

Big Interview: Interview Simulator  

Big Interview offers a comprehensive range of resources, including an interview simulator. The simulator provides job-specific, simulated interview environments for over 1,000 jobs across more than 100 industries. Job seekers receive immediate AI-powered feedback, which includes detailed insights on their responses, body language, vocabulary use, filler words and eye contact, along with tips for improvement. While full access requires a subscription, some universities and libraries offer free access to their students, alumni and members.
