Each week, CERIC is on the lookout for the latest reports related to career development. Here are four reports that we found interesting this week:
Labour Force Survey, March 2020 (Statistics Canada)
Employment fell by more than one million in March. The employment rate – or the proportion of people aged 15 and older who were employed – fell 3.3 percentage points to 58.5%, the lowest rate since April 1997.
Women at the core of the fight against COVID-19 crisis (OECD)
The COVID-19 pandemic is harming health, social and economic well-being worldwide, with women at the centre. First and foremost, women are leading the health response: women make up almost 70% of the health-care workforce, exposing them to a greater risk of infection. At the same time, women are also shouldering much of the burden at home, given school and child care facility closures and longstanding gender inequalities in unpaid work.
COVID-19 and the world of work (International Labour Organization)
Full or partial lockdown measures are now affecting almost 2.7 billion workers, representing around 81% of the world’s workforce. Businesses across a range of economic sectors are facing catastrophic losses, which threaten their operations and solvency, especially among smaller enterprises, while millions of workers are vulnerable to income loss and layoffs.
Working Through COVID-19: Family Responsibilities Survey (The Conference Board of Canada)
As COVID-19 continues to shift the daily rhythms of Canadian households, millions of Canadians are feeling the pinch to balance competing demands of work and family. The Conference Board shares results from a survey that asked organizations across Canada how they’re accommodating employees with family responsibilities.
