10 associations Ontario career professionals should consider joining

Ontario offers a wealth of opportunities for professionals working in career development to connect with other people in their field. Whether your focus is on Indigenous career counselling, co-operative education or employment for people with disabilities, for example, you’ll likely find an association of interest below.

Association of Career Educators (ACE)

ACE is a non-profit organization of leaders passionate about career development. ACE no longer appeared to have an active website at the time of publication (July 2024) but has a Facebook group, linked above.

Career Development Practitioners’ Certification Board of Ontario (CDPCBO) Association

The CDPCBO was established to provide certification to career development practitioners in Ontario. It is offering updates on the ongoing process to develop national certification.

Education at Work Ontario (EWO)

EWO is a provincial non-profit comprising post-secondary, publicly-funded institutions in Ontario that offer co-operative education, work-integrated and experiential learning. Education at Work Ontario has 29 member institutions and 290 members

International Coach Federation (Toronto)

ICF Toronto supports its membership through learning and networking and leads the advancement of the coaching profession.

Ontario Association of Career Management (OACM)

OACM is dedicated to advancing the knowledge, service delivery and livelihood of career management professionals across Ontario. Through OACM’s education curriculum, trainings and networking events, members gain the professional development they need to stay current and responsive to the emerging and evolving needs of their clients.

Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP)

The OAMHP’s 3,000+ members – which includes counsellors offering career services – embody the spectrum of mental health care providers at work in family health teams, hospitals, school boards, workplaces, community centres and private clinics.

Ontario Cooperative Education Association (OCEA)

OCEA is a not-for-profit professional organization founded to promote the development of co-operative education, work experience, school-work transition and OYAP programs, and to assist in the professional growth of the members.

Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN)

ODEN brings together businesses and employment service providers to increase employment opportunities for jobseekers who have a disability. Members can access tools, resources and learning opportunities to build their capacity for employment inclusion in Ontario.

Ontario Native Education Counselling Association (ONECA)

ONECA is founded upon principles that recognize that, although a variety of counselling and educational tools and programs exist in Ontario, the development of Native communities requires tools and programs designed specifically to improving Native counselling and education services. Members get reduced registration fees for ONECA’s annual conference.

Ontario School Counsellor’s Association (OSCA) / Association des conseillères et des conseillers d’orientation scolaire de l’Ontario (ACOSO)

OSCA provides leadership and support in guidance and career education for guidance teacher-counsellors and students. OSCA’s website also offers resources for students and families.
